FAQ
The mount fits on, let us say, 80% of all the popular cap brands. However, there are the minority cases in which
the BrimFlix Mount does not work well or fit onto a cap brim:
a) The brim of the cap, material thickness, is too thin for the mount to grip the cam brim properly. Be careful
of this situation before using your action camera on the mount with this fit situation as you do not want
your camera coming off your cap.
b) The brim of the cap, material thickness, is too thick for the mount to grip the cap brim properly. You will
notice this condition if you are trying to slide the mount fully onto the cap brim but if the gap of the mount
starts to widen and too much force is required to continue to try and complete the positioning. If the brim
does not snap into place, to fully engage with the brim, the camera can move and come off your cap.
c) As mentioned, most curved brim caps work with the BrimFlix Mount. However, it does not work on Flat
brimmed caps currently. Please do not try to insert the curved mount onto a flat brim.
We have designed our mount to work with ‘ALL’ action cameras which utilize the ‘GoPro mounting foot’
method.
For our current models, the best way to know the direction your camera is looking in is to connect it via
Bluetooth to your phone app. Then pivot the camera upwards and gently tighten the thumbscrew. Then make
sure your cap is on your head the way you typically wear it, then look straight forward, raise your phone
screen up in front of your face you can look at it by moving your eyes downwards, not by moving your head.
Look to see if the vertical positioning is to your liking. You have flexibility here, depending on what you are
filming, as to whether you see more sky or more ground. This is important so that you have a good, framed
shot as you look in different directions.
Not currently. We are working on the design of a flat brimmed version to be released later in 2024.
In short no, the mount was designed to be used on our favorite hats and be able to add or remove the mount
repeatedly as needed. And, because there are no mechanical components used which also prevents damage.
However, there are two conditions to be aware of:
First is, as mentioned, the mount does not fit perfectly on all cap brims based on manufacture type, so there is
a chance of more pressure being applied to a cap brim rim which could cause slight deformation if forced into
place with too much pressure. It is better to stop and select a different cap.
Second is, the mount is currently made via a 3D printed material and process. We clean the parts as good as
possible during the manufacturing process, but sometimes there is a bit of material residue which remains
inside the cap gap of the mount which can get on the material of your cap brim. Typically, this can be washed
off with a damp towel.
We have designed our BrimFlix mount to ergonomically position the weight of the camera back towards the
crown of the cap directly above your forehead. A person can still feel the weight, but we have designed it to be
able to be worn for several to many hours at a time without head fatigue. The mount can be removed and
added to the cap when needed. The mount stays on the cap brim without worry, even if you take your cap off.
The best way to insert the brim of a cap into the BrimFlix Mount is to place it at an angle to one side of the
mount and insert the near center of the cap brim into the BrimFlix opening. Continue to slide the cap and the
mount together trying to align the post of the mount as centered as possible to the crown of the hat before it
snaps into place. Once it is in place it is a bit more difficult to move the mount from side to side. Which is what
we want because we do not want the mount moving around on the cap brim once in position.
It is best to turn or twist the BrimFlix Mount in either direction first, which helps it free from the rim of the cap,
then pull it straight off the brim.
Tightening the thumbscrew down tight holds the camera in the selected POV position.
The BrimFlix mount features eight complex curves which work together to secure the camera to the profile of
the cap brim. It snaps in place, preventing camera movement. It does not use any mechanical parts to adjust
the tension. This was designed on purpose to reduce the weight of the mount and to prevent cap damage.
he design servers 3 purposes:
1) Pivot the camera upwards to place it in filming position, which moves the field of view up and away so that
the cap brim stays out of the shot when in wide format.
2) Fold the camera toward the mount to protect the lens or keep it pointed away from exposure to moisture.
3) Fold the camera to store it in a case and transport your camera while left positioned on the mount.
4) Fold the camera to carry your action camera on your belt or a backpack strap or in a pocket, until you a
Since the camera's main purpose was designed for POV (point-of-view) filming, we take the camera and
position it looking in the same direction of our eyes, thus, the right hand and left hand are the same as say our
right arm and our left arm. This makes it extremely easy to know which side (model) we have based on how
the thumbscrew is inserted.
Earlier versions of action cameras had their battery doors on the left-hand side of the camera. So, our first
models were designed with the right-hand thumbscrew insert. This allowed the battery to be removed easily
while the action camera was connected to the mount. With the introduction of the GoPro Hero 8, the battery
door moved to the right-hand side of the camera. Our original mount still works with this configuration, but
we decided to build a left-hand model again to make it easier for the user to change batteries without
disrupting the camera fixed to the BrimFlix Mount.
The weight of the mount on average is 21.88 grams or .772 oz.
The weight of the thumbscrew on average is 8.9 grams or .314 oz.
The full BrimFlix item comes in with a combined mount and thumbscrew weight of 30.78 grams or 1.086 oz.
To give a comparison, that is less than ¼ the weight of a typical action camera.
The envelope of the BrimFlix Mount is 2.125”W x 3.30”L x 2.0”H
The thumbscrew sticks out from the camera mount fingers by 1.40”
Yes. As long as the BrimFlix thumbscrew does not interfere with the usb-c charge port door opening.
Yes, as long as your BrimFlix model with the thumbscrew side, does not interfere with your battery door
opening. Although our mounts work with any cameras, it's best to purchase the RH or LH model specific to
work best with your brand of action camera being used.
Yes, we would consider that with a large enough order. We have designed it with two options in mind:
1) The front face where typically a printed name would go (8-10) characters.
2) The top of the mount where typically a logo would go (.7” x .7”) area.
However, we allow only one of the two areas to be branded at a time. That would leave either our product
name ‘BrimFlix’ or our product logo ‘VE’ on the product, along with your co-branding.
Branding fully, both name and logo areas would require another higher level of quantity purchase. This would
be considered upon request and review.
So, this added weight will feel a bit awkward at first because you are not used to having this additional weight
on your hat or head. Give it some time to get used to. It is a small price to pay to have a hands-free filming
option like this.
Another thing to consider is how well your hat fits. The best caps are the ones with the adjustable back strap
like the ‘snap-back,’ hook n’ loop, buckle, or clasp so you can tighten the hat up a bit. Just do not make it too
tight so that you get a headache. The flex-fit hats work but they cannot be too loose, or else the camera weight
will push the brim of the hat down into your forehead and it will feel uncomfortable. Plus, they bounce around
a bit. With the most modern action cameras, the new stabilization features take care of the slight motions.
